The BA / B.Sc. in DIGITAL HUMANITIES program offered by UPES is a forward-looking undergraduate degree that combines the realms of technology and humanities. Over the course of four years, students delve into the field of 'Computational Humanities' by integrating traditional humanities disciplines like literature, history, art, philosophy, film studies, and sociology with digital tools and methodologies. By doing so, they acquire a comprehensive skill set that encompasses both the foundations of humanities and the ability to analyze, visualize, and interpret Big Data using computational skills.
The program places a strong emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, enabling students to navigate the rapidly evolving digital landscape and make meaningful contributions to various fields such as academia, cultural heritage, publishing, and media. Through the BA / B.Sc. in DIGITAL HUMANITIES, students not only engage with cutting-edge technologies but also gain a profound understanding of the social, ethical, and cultural implications of technology in our society.
The program offers three specialization tracks: Literary Studies, Culture and Heritage Studies, and New Media and Technology Studies. These research-centric tracks allow students to apply critical thinking and digital interventions in their chosen areas of specialization. The curriculum encompasses a wide range of domains such as literature, sociology, gender, art, history, and culture. Students have the opportunity to explore text mining and analysis of ancient texts, digitization and preservation of cultural artifacts, and the development of interactive digital platforms to showcase their research. By acquiring these skills, graduates of the Digital Humanities program are well-equipped to excel in the VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) World and become thought leaders in their respective fields, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge on a global scale.
