The M.Sc. Petroleum Geosciences program offered by UPES School of Advanced Engineering is a comprehensive two-year master's degree focused on geosciences with a specialization in petroleum exploration and development. Over the course of four semesters and 80 credits, students will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to excel in the field of petroleum geosciences. The program's curriculum is thoughtfully designed to cover a wide range of topics. In the first semester, students build a strong foundation in core geological principles, including tectonics, structural geology, petrology, stratigraphy, and paleontology. The subsequent semesters then delve into the applied aspects of geology, with a particular focus on petroleum, mineral, and mining industries. Additionally, students will learn about unconventional hydrocarbons, NLP (Natural Language Processing), and environmental geochemistry.
A unique feature of this program is the opportunity for real-world exposure through two industrial visits and one industry internship. This hands-on experience allows students to apply their knowledge in practical settings and better prepares them for the job market. Moreover, the program offers elective courses in areas like hydrocarbon accounting, asset management, and computational geosciences, enabling students to tailor their education to suit their career goals.
Upon graduation, students will find a plethora of job opportunities in diverse sectors, including oil and gas industries, government organizations, water boards, coal organizations, mining sectors, research organizations, surveys, laboratories, meteorological departments, and educational institutions. The wide range of career prospects showcases the program's effectiveness in producing skilled professionals who can contribute to various industries and fields.
