Dr. Amit Kumar is a proficient researcher with expertise in the field of magneto-hydrodynamics, mathematical modelling, fluid structure and interaction, and nanofluid flow over various geometries, such as rotating disks, stretching sheets, channels, and horizontal and vertical plates, among others. Dr. Kumar has authored several research publications in reputable international journals and has presented his work at national and international conferences. He has completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur and a master's degree (M.Sc.) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.

Before joining UPES, Dr. Kumar was an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Data Science (CDS), Institute of Technical Education and Research, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar, India from December 2020 - August 2022. Prior to that, he was associated with the School of Basic Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi, India as a Project Scientist.
Dr. Kumar's research interests encompass Magneto-Fluid Dynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Boundary Layer Theory, Thin Film Flows, Nanofluid flows, and their applications.
Dr. Kumar believes that mathematics is both a theoretical and practical field with interdisciplinary applications. He emphasizes the importance of providing students with a fundamental knowledge of physical applications alongside theoretical knowledge. His main goal is to cultivate a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics in his students. Instead of focusing solely on memorization and procedures, he encourages them to explore the underlying principles and connections within the subject. By emphasizing the "why" behind mathematical concepts, students can develop a solid foundation that enables them to tackle complex problems and apply their knowledge to real-world situations.
At the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, Dr. Kumar has taught various mathematics courses, including Discrete Mathematics, Advanced Discrete Mathematics, Numerical Methods, Differential Equations, Engineering Mathematics I, Engineering Mathematics II, Optimization, and Linear Algebra.
Dr. Kumar received the Best Paper Presentation Award at the 2nd International Conference on Applied Mathematics in Science and Engineering (AMSE) organized by the Centre for Data Science, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (Deemed to be University), Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, held on March 24 – 26 (2022).
Dr. Kumar actively serves as a reviewer for top-notch journals like Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat and Fluid Flow, Waves in Complex and Random Media, Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering, Indian Journal of Physics, and others. He is a life member of the Indian Mathematical Society and the International Association of Engineers (IAENG) and has an extensive publication record in prestigious international journals.
